One of Our Favorite Days in Southern Sweden

People often ask us what they should do if they have a day or two in Southern Sweden.

Our answer is always the same.

Slow down.

This part of Sweden isn't about racing from landmark to landmark. It is about wandering through gardens, lingering over coffee, discovering small museums, walking centuries-old streets, and finding beautiful shops and restaurants that feel as though they've always belonged exactly where they are.

Over the years we've developed a route we recommend again and again to visiting friends, family, journalists, designers, and customers traveling to Malmö.

The day begins at Sofiero Palace overlooking the Øresund, continues through medieval Lund and its magnificent cathedral, pauses for lunch at one of Scandinavia's most remarkable museums, and finishes in Malmö's historic old town with antiques, independent boutiques, wonderful restaurants, and—of course—a visit to BON TON goods.

Rather than trying to squeeze every possible attraction into a single article, we created a complete guide that walks you through the entire day, including practical planning information, recommendations, maps, museums, restaurants, and many of our favorite places.

Why We Created This Guide

Southern Sweden deserves to be experienced rather than simply visited.

While Copenhagen often receives most of the attention, the landscapes and cities just across the bridge offer some of Scandinavia's richest combinations of history, craftsmanship, architecture, gardens, food, and independent shopping.
