Inside the Commission Process
Some jewelry is chosen in a moment. Other pieces require time, conversation, and intention.
At BON TON, we believe the jewelry you return to again and again, the pieces that quietly become part of daily life, are often the ones worth planning for. These are not impulse decisions. They are collaborations, shaped slowly and thoughtfully, designed to last.
Each spring, we open a limited number of private commissions with Mikkel Brøgger, offering clients the opportunity to create bespoke, bridal, or made-to-order jewelry through an intimate, considered process.
Why Commission Jewelry?
Commissioning a piece of jewelry is not about excess or extravagance. It is about alignment.
Clients often come to us with a moment in mind: a marriage, an anniversary, the birth of a child, a milestone birthday, or a desire to reinterpret jewelry they already own but no longer wear. Others come simply because they want a piece that reflects who they are now, not what was available at the counter.
Commissioned jewelry allows space for these stories. It makes room for individuality, restraint, and intention.
The Process: From Conversation to Creation
Every commission begins with a private consultation.
This first conversation is not about selecting a finished design. It is about listening. We discuss how the piece will be worn, what it should feel like on the body, and what it is meant to mark. From there, a design direction emerges, informed by proportion, materials, and the quiet details that define Mikkel’s work.
Once the design is agreed upon, a deposit secures the commission and production begins. Pieces are made by hand over several weeks, allowing time for careful execution and refinement. Final payment is due upon completion, shortly before delivery.
This pace is deliberate. Jewelry worth wearing for decades cannot be rushed.
Timing Matters
Because each piece is made to order, commissions must be planned in advance.
For jewelry intended for late spring or early summer, consultations and commitments typically take place by early April. This ensures sufficient time for design, sourcing, and production without compromise.
For this reason, we accept only a small number of commissions each season.
A Personal Approach
What distinguishes commissioned jewelry is not only the result, but the experience itself.
Clients are involved without being overwhelmed. Decisions are guided, not hurried. The process is collaborative, calm, and deeply personal. The result is a piece of jewelry that feels inevitable, as though it has always belonged to the wearer.
