Collection: Commune de Paris Collection by Astier de Villatte

The Commune de Paris Collection by Astier de Villatte is a spirited collaboration between the Parisian ceramic atelier and the creative collective Commune de Paris. Drawing upon French history, graphic design and the iconography of Paris itself, the collection brings a bold, distinctly Gallic character to Astier de Villatte’s handmade ceramics.

Created around the 140th anniversary of the Paris Commune of 1871, the collaboration reinterprets French symbols and tricolour motifs with a sharp, contemporary graphic sensibility. Red, white and blue details enliven Astier de Villatte’s ceramics, while imagery inspired by Paris transforms traditional tableware into something playful, modern and unmistakably French.

The collaboration brings together two different visions of Paris: Astier de Villatte’s devotion to historic craftsmanship and handmade ceramic traditions, and Commune de Paris’s irreverent approach to fashion, graphics and French cultural identity. The result is tableware that feels rooted in history without ever becoming nostalgic.

Handmade in Paris, the Astier de Villatte × Commune de Paris ceramics combine the subtle irregularities of the artisan’s hand with bold graphic decoration, creating pieces that are equally compelling on the table or displayed as decorative objects. Witty, patriotic and wonderfully unconventional, the collection captures a particularly Parisian meeting of tradition and rebellion.
