Collection: Grand Chalet Collection by Astier de Villatte

The Grand Chalet Collection by Astier de Villatte draws inspiration from the magnificent façade of the Grand Chalet de Rossinière, the largest wooden house in Switzerland. Translating its distinctive architecture into handmade Parisian ceramics, the collection transforms carved wooden details, mouldings and decorative friezes into an elegant and highly sculptural table service.

The plates are interpreted in two distinct ways. One features dynamic semicircular bas-reliefs inspired by the ornamental frieze of the Grand Chalet's façade, creating a rhythmic border of light, shadow and architectural detail. The second is quieter and more restrained, with a refined rim that evokes the elegant wooden mouldings of the historic Swiss house.

The Grand Chalet itself holds a special place in twentieth-century artistic history as the home of the painter Balthus. Surrounded by the landscape of the Swiss Alps, the monumental wooden chalet became closely associated with the artist and his family, adding another layer of cultural history to Astier de Villatte's interpretation of its architecture.

Handmade in Paris, each Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet ceramic is stamped with the Astier de Villatte monogram and the initials of the artisan who crafted it. Architectural yet wonderfully tactile, the collection brings the grandeur and intricate craftsmanship of an extraordinary Alpine house to the table.
