A World Made for Collecting
Vintage by Crystal is the work of husband-and-wife artists Crystal and Ben Sloane. Inspired by antique spun-cotton ornaments made in nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century Germany, Crystal developed her own distinctive interpretation of the historic craft before building the family studio together with Ben.
Each figure is shaped by small details: painted faces, miniature costumes, glittered accents, natural fibres, and imaginative combinations of animals, people, flowers, and seasonal symbols. Vintage finds, antique fragments, and unusual materials gathered at flea markets, fairs, yard sales, and beaches give the pieces their individual character.
Some Vintage by Crystal figures are one of a kind, while others belong to open editions. Colours, materials, expressions, and decorative details may vary according to what the artists find and use. These variations are part of the work’s handmade nature rather than imperfections.
