The Villa Médicis Collection by Astier de Villatte looks to the forms of ancient Roman tableware, reinterpreted through the unmistakable white ceramics of the Parisian atelier. Created in partnership with the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Médicis, the collection brings together classical proportions, archaeological references and Astier de Villatte’s distinctly contemporary sensibility.

In antiquity, such wide borders might have been richly decorated with portraits, coloured arabesques and ornamental motifs. Astier de Villatte strips them of decoration entirely, rendering the historic forms purely and simply in white.
