A striking bronzed plaster wall medallion depicting Swedish poet and saloniste Anna Maria Lenngren (1754–1817), after an original design by renowned neoclassical sculptor Johan Tobias Sergel.

Sergel, one of Sweden’s most celebrated 18th-century artists, was born in Stockholm in 1740 and trained in the classical tradition in Rome. His work, often commissioned by the royal court, exemplified the clarity, balance, and expressive realism of the Gustavian era. He was a contemporary and admirer of Lenngren, herself a major literary figure in Sweden’s Enlightenment period.

This elegant relief captures Lenngren in serene profile, her elaborate coiffure and delicate features modeled in deep sculptural relief. The bronzed surface gives the illusion of cast metal, lending the piece gravitas and timeless appeal.
