Across the Sound / På Tværs af Øresund brings the work of Danish jeweler Mikkel Brøgger to BON TON goods in Malmö as part of The City of Jewellery 2026. It is the festival’s only exhibition outside Copenhagen—and its sole presentation in Sweden.
The title is geographical, but it is also personal. Copenhagen and Malmö face one another across a narrow body of water: two cities, two countries, and one daily field of changing blue. Mikkel’s jewelry has long been attentive to the same qualities found there—light moving across a surface, color held within a stone, and forms that feel both elemental and precisely composed.
Jewelry in the color of distance
Aquamarine is the central note of the exhibition. Its color can be nearly transparent, pale as morning, or deepened by the presence of gold and diamonds. Rather than asking the stones to match perfectly, Mikkel works with their distinctions. Scale, cut, clarity and tone become part of a larger rhythm.

The view between
A seascape among the stones
A small vintage marine painting sits within the exhibition as more than decoration. Its sailing vessels, open water and clouded sky make the idea of passage visible. Beside aquamarine, the painted sea becomes a quiet key to the collection: color as atmosphere, distance as connection, and the water not as a boundary but as the space that joins two shores.
From a single stud to a rivière
The scale of the work moves deliberately. Aquamarine studs place one clear point of color close to the face. Pebble earrings soften the stone with hand-worked gold. The Alexandra pieces gather aquamarines into larger constellations: a ring, bracelet, earrings and a full rivière necklace whose repetition turns light into movement.
These are not anonymous stones arranged by formula. They are individual materials brought into conversation—sometimes symmetrical, sometimes irregular, always governed by proportion and the character of what Mikkel has found.
