Ino Schaller Easter: A Bavarian Legacy of Handcrafted Whimsy Since 1894
Share
Each spring, collectors quietly begin their search for something rare: authentic Ino Schaller Easter figures, handcrafted in Germany using traditional papier-mâché techniques passed down for over five generations.
At BON TON goods, Easter begins with Ino.
A Bavarian Tradition Since 1894
The story of Ino Schaller begins in 1894 in Neustadt, Germany, where Carl Schaller founded a small papier-mâché workshop. Every figure was modeled and embossed by hand. Over time, the family refined a distinctive style: expressive faces, delicate detailing, and a touch of European folklore.
By the mid-20th century, many traditional workshops had disappeared. In the 1980s, Thomas Schaller, Carl’s great-grandson, revived the historic molds and techniques, preserving a uniquely German craft tradition that still defines the collection today.
Each Ino Schaller Easter piece is still handcrafted and hand-painted in Bavaria.
No two are identical.
Why Ino Schaller Easter Pieces Feel Different
In a world of mass-produced seasonal décor, Ino Schaller stands apart.
The rabbits, bunnies, hares, chicks, and woodland creatures have a softness and character that feels nostalgic but not sentimental. Some are painted in traditional matte finishes. Others shimmer with subtle glitter or hand-applied detailing.
They are not disposable decorations.
They are heirloom objects.
Collectors return year after year to add one new piece to their spring vignette.
The Art of Styling Ino Schaller for Easter
Ino Schaller figures shine when styled simply.
Begin with one “hero” rabbit or bunny.
Add one supporting detail for balance — perhaps a small bowl, a vintage book, or a candle.
Allow negative space.
These pieces carry presence on their own.
Because many are limited production and made in small batches, availability shifts each season.
