For over four decades, Ted Muehling has shaped a singular design language—intimate, organic, and deeply considered. Working from his luminous New York studio, Muehling has created jewelry and objects inspired by the natural world: the curve of a shell, the flicker of a moth's wing, the elegant asymmetry of a seedpod.
Originally trained as an industrial designer at Pratt Institute, Ted’s work resists trends and embraces timelessness. His earrings, necklaces, candlesticks, and tabletop pieces feel like they’ve always existed—and always will.
A Scandinavian Connection
Ted’s life and work are quietly tied to Scandinavia. His partner, Mats Gustafsson of the last two decades, is Swedish born—a personal connection that has brought his work even closer to this region. At BON TON goods, that connection is further deepened through our own story: Mikkel, co-founder of BON TON and a former assistant of Ted’s, spent formative years in Ted’s atelier, learning by watching, listening, and making.
