Hans Ripa studied at the Painting School in Skåne 1928-1029, at Maison Watteau Académie Colarossi in Paris and at the Art Academy in Copenhagen for two years. Hans also made study trips to Germany, France and to the south of Europe.

Ripa was active as a theatre painter at the Scala Theatre, at Hipp and at the City Theatre in Malmö. He painted landscapes from the area of Torekov but also still life with flowers. He gave exhibitions in Helsingborg, Malmö, Borås and Tomelilla, while he internationally exhibited in New York, Nice and Paris. Today, he is represented at the museums in Simrishamn, Landskrona and Tomelilla.
