A pair of English glass paintings, created using an 18th-century transfer and hand-painting technique revived by the Chelsea studio in the 20th century.
The process involves transferring a fine engraving or mezzotint onto glass, then delicately rubbing away the paper to leave only the transparent print layer, which is hand-colored in oil paints. The result is a luminous image that captures the crystalline depth of the glass itself.
