The Wiener Werkstätte Necklaces by Mikkel Brøgger

The Wiener Werkstätte Necklaces by Mikkel Brøgger

Modernist Spirit, Reimagined in Stone

In Mikkel Brøgger’s ever-evolving exploration of form, color, and craftsmanship, two new works stand out as sculptural statements rooted in both historical reverence and personal design language:
Wiener Werkstätte Necklace I and Wiener Werkstätte Necklace II.

Each necklace is a one-of-a-kind composition, designed in Scandinavia and handmade in New York City, where old-world materials meet contemporary artistry. Together, they pay quiet homage to the Wiener Werkstätte — a revolutionary early 20th-century Viennese design collective that celebrated the union of craft, geometry, and the handmade.

About the Wiener Werkstätte

Founded in Vienna in 1903 by Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, and Fritz Waerndorfer, the Wiener Werkstätte (or “Viennese Workshop”) sought to erase the boundary between fine and applied arts. Their vision was total: from architecture and typography to textiles, jewelry, and everyday objects, each piece was considered, constructed, and unified by design.

The Werkstätte’s jewelry — particularly that of Moser — is celebrated for its architectural structure, asymmetric balance, and unexpected use of color. These principles live on in Mikkel’s new necklaces, which transform gemstone beads into compositions of modernist restraint and quiet opulence.

Wiener Werkstätte Necklace I

A tribute to contrast and harmony

Featuring:

Black faceted agate beads

Emerald, amazonite, and honey opal for tonal lightness

Pearls for organic luminosity

Turquoise, lapis lazuli, and labradorite for grounded, cool-toned drama

The stones range from 2mm to 10mm, wire-strung for strength and shape retention, and secured with a handmade sterling silver clasp and lock. The effect is balanced yet dynamic — a rhythm of proportion and hue, like visual music.

Wiener Werkstätte Necklace II

A bolder, more elemental meditation

Featuring:

Black faceted agate for shadow and depth

Lapis lazuli, kyanite, and nephrite jade for stately cool

Angelite and eagle’s eye for softness and iridescence

Strung on red silk thread, this piece features a silver stone link accent and a sterling silver handmade clasp, giving it a sense of motion and material integrity. While Necklace I feels lyrical, Necklace II leans monumental — a more sculptural take on the same Viennese foundation.

💍 What They Share

Aesthetic influence: Koloman Moser’s jewelry designs

Material integrity: ethically sourced gemstones, sterling silver, silk and wire stringing

Artisanal production: Designed in Scandinavia, handmade in New York City

Edition: One of one

Each necklace invites not just admiration, but examination — a study in proportion, contrast, and the expressive potential of natural material.

🧵 More Than Jewelry: A Legacy in Thread and Stone

These necklaces are not reproductions — they are reinterpretations. They carry the essence of the Wiener Werkstätte movement, but speak in Mikkel Brøgger’s distinct voice: measured, modern, and emotionally resonant.

This is slow jewelry at its most considered.
Crafted with intent.
Worn with reverence.
