✨ About the Artist: Serena Carone

Based in Belleville, Paris, Serena Carone trained at the École des Beaux-Arts before gravitating toward ceramics as her preferred medium. Her work is whimsical, symbolic, and instinctive—featuring surrealist forms and unexpected motifs, often inspired by folk art and fantasy. Eyes, hands, shells, snakes, flowers, and hearts recur throughout her collections, rendered with a sensitivity that is both delicate and expressive.

🏛️ A Collaboration with Astier de Villatte

Astier de Villatte is known for its revival of 18th- and 19th-century French ceramic traditions. Each piece is handcrafted in their Paris atelier using black terracotta clay sourced from the Paris Basin and finished with a luminous white glaze. The result is a uniquely tactile surface: matte beneath the glaze, but alive with subtle texture and irregularity.

In this special collaboration, Carone replaces traditional cup handles with ornate sculptural rings—miniature works of art that double as handles. Gilded, glazed, or hand-painted, these handles become central to the object’s personality.

• Moulded from black terracotta, then dried for nearly a month before their first firing.
  

• Glazed in white enamel, revealing the black clay beneath in places for contrast and depth.
  

• Fired a second time, then finished with gilding, hand-painting, or fine enamel work on the ring.

Every piece bears the Astier de Villatte stamp and the initials of the artisan who made it, ensuring its authenticity and uniqueness. No two are alike—each bears the fingerprints of its maker.
